The first English edition of The 99, a comic-book series whose superheroes are based on Islamic culture, was released in November 2006. Created by Kuwaiti psychologist Naif Al-Mutawa, the series features superheroes who are all imbued with the 99 qualities that the Qu’ran attributes to God.
